Juan Bernabè performed a fascist salute in 2021
SS Lazio suspended Bernabè in 2021 when he was filmed performing a fascist salute at the end of a match and chanting "Duce, Duce," which was the name used to praise former fascist Italian leader Benito Mussolini, the Associated Press reported.
"I admire him so much," Bernabè said about Mussolini during Monday's radio interview, per the AP.
Il Guardian lo mette addirittura nel titolo:
Lazio fire far-right eagle mascot handler over his social media penis posts
The 56-year-old Spaniard has previously been in hot water over his openly hard-right politics, and was suspended by Lazio in 2021 for performing a fascist salute at the end of a match with Inter. He was filmed by fans at Rome's Stadio Olimpico making the gesture and chanting "Duce, Duce" while holding Olympia and dressed in full Lazio kit.
Bernabe then told Italian newspaper Il Messaggero that he was "proud" to be a supporter of far-right Spanish political party Vox "like many footballer friends of mine". He confirmed that he had performed the chants in favour of Benito Mussolini, who founded the National Fascist Party and ruled Italy from 1922 to 1943 before being killed near Lake Como by Italian partisans in 1945. "I did it and I don't regret it because I admire Mussolini, he did great things for Italy as Franco did for Spain," he said in the same interview. "I admire both of them and I'm proud of it."

Lazio sack doc who performed far-right falconer's penis op: club owner
Lotito and Lazio took a less hard line with Bernabe in 2021 when he was briefly suspended for performing a fascist salute at the end of a match with Serie A rivals Inter Milan.
Bernabe was filmed by fans making the stiff-armed gesture and chanting "Duce, Duce" while holding Olimpia and dressed in full Lazio kit.
He then told Italian newspaper Il Messaggero that he was "proud" to be a supporter of far-right Spanish political party Vox and admired dictators Benito Mussolini and Francisco Franco.
On Tuesday, Lotito played down that incident, saying vaguely that he makes "professional judgements", and describing Bernabe's fascist salute as "behaviour that is a bit excessive".
Lazio have long had a reputation for being associated with Italy's far-right, largely due to their hardcore ultras who for decades have been some of the most notoriously fascist fans in Europe.
Their historic ultras, the 'Irriducibili', had friendly relations with hard-right groups across the continent, while fans have repeatedly directed anti-semitic chants at supporters of local rivals Roma.
La BBC almeno ci risparmia il titolo:
Lazio falconer sacked for sharing explicit photos of prosthetic penis
The 56-year-old was suspended by the club in 2021 for performing a fascist salute at the end of a match against Inter Milan.
Bernabe was filmed making the salute and chanting "duce, duce", which translates as "leader, leader" and is commonly associated with former fascist Italian leader Benito Mussolini.
"I did it and I don't regret it because I admire Mussolini, he did great things for Italy as Franco did for Spain," Bernabe said in 2021.

Lazio's far-right falconer protests dismissal for sharing photos of penis implant
Lazio already let go of Bernabè once in 2021 when he was filmed performing a fascist salute at the end of a match and chanting "Duce, Duce," which was the name used to praise former fascist Italian leader Benito Mussolini.
"I admire him so much," Bernabè said in the interview with La Zanzara.
One of two world-renowned clubs in the Italian capital, Lazio is known for its fans' affiliation with the far right.
It is also the home club of Mussolini's great-grandson, Romano, who plays on the right wing.
Pure al The Athletic non sfugge l'associazione nel articolo:
Lazio's club falconer, his prosthetic penis and a very unusual sacking
Bernabe has, in the past, declared his approval of Vox, a far-right party in Spain. A section of Lazio's support, not to mention some past players, have been forthright in their nostalgia for Benito Mussolini.
To Bernabe, this appears to have been part of the appeal of working at the Olimpico on Lazio's match days. Being Laziale, was, he said: "An honour in every sense. It makes me feel more masculine." As for Mussolini: "I admire him a lot."
