On Tuesday, one of the most serious acts of killing for many weeks in Gaza occurred in eastern Khan Yunis. Limited information about the incident so far indicates that there was talk in the area about a truck carrying flour (apparently from the United Nations' global food program). Thousands streamed to the area and surrounded the truck.

For some reason, Israeli army troops in the area became alarmed and opened fire at the crowd. Fifty-one people were killed and more than 200 wounded. The army expressed regret "over the harm to noncombatants" and said it was reviewing the incident.

Most of the wounded were taken to nearby Nasser Hospital, which for the past two weeks has been on the verge of collapse due to Israeli evacuation orders and attacks in the vicinity.

The shocking killing of starved people on their way to a flour truck is additional proof of the terrible failure of Israel's new food policy in the Gaza Strip. Three weeks have elapsed since the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation began distributing food there, following an 80-day blockade of the enclave. The new food distribution system is cruel and dangerous. So far, approximately 400 people have paid with their lives as a result of that failure. Thousands of others have been wounded.

The new system has failed entirely to achieve the two goals it was entrusted with: preventing hunger and preventing food and funds from reaching Hamas in the process.

The logic behind it is that Israel can't let Gazans starve but also must prevent Hamas at all costs from seizing food and other humanitarian assistance entering the Strip.

Before the full humanitarian blockade was imposed, such food distribution was based on a system established by the UN and other organizational partners. It functioned on two levels – distribution of food parcels to families registered for assistance and distribution of bread and prepared food at hundreds of community kitchens and bakeries.

UN officials have explained that providing food and other humanitarian aid in the middle of an armed conflict is a complex task. They said they drew lessons from countless conflicts elsewhere in the world. The aim was to ease the pressure that the population placed on distribution sites and to ensure that the food reached all population groups and provided basic food security. In other words, it sought to reduce the families' dread over going hungry the following day and the day after that.

For its part, the army claimed that the UN-delivered food was funding Hamas. It said Hamas was either directly stealing the food or selling some of it on the open market and collecting taxes from the purchases. But the army never provided any proof to back its claims. If Hamas was in fact stealing a significant portion of the food, where is it hiding it? It wouldn't fit into a small ammunition storage site or a narrow tunnel used to hide hostages. Amassing food in substantial quantities would require Hamas to maintain hangars, giant warehouses, in Gaza. And up to now, the military hasn't produced evidence that Hamas has taken over such sites.

Regarding claims of food selling, UN officials are adamant the food they brought in reached the needy directly, unless armed robbers looted it on the way. It recently emerged that Israel armed some of these thieves (including Yasser Abu Shabab's gangs, who for months stole food from the UN near the Kerem Shalom border crossing). The UN asserts that food sold commercially came from private humanitarian organizations or organizations from Arab countries that permitted selling a portion of the food aid.

When it resumed aid distribution, the army replaced that distribution system with two other mechanisms. The first is via the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, which Israel established in partnership with Christian evangelicals in the United States and private security contractors. The foundation opened four distribution sites, three in the south and one in central Gaza. On Tuesday, the army boasted that all four sites were concurrently open for the first time.

The sites have no set opening hours and lack transparency. Gazans have to rely on Facebook posts and rumors to find out when they'll be open. That ramps up demand around the distribution sites because Gazans can't be confident there'll be more food available the following day.

Most importantly, however, the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation's centers have become death traps for hundreds of Palestinians. The army, which provides security around the centers, didn't prepare to receive tens of thousands of starved and desperate people. People have been killed along the way to or in the vicinity of the sites almost every day over the past three weeks.

But even absent the mass killings, GHF's distribution centers are a failure by every humanitarian measure. First, only someone strong and capable of walking long distances and running to grab aid parcels and to lug heavy loads has been able to obtain food. The sites are almost irrelevant to others, including women, children, the elderly and people with disabilities.

Second, there is no system of registration or oversight over what is being provided at the distribution sites. What's happening there is more in the nature of organized looting than food distribution. The foundation's staff arrange piles of cases of basic food, open the gates and stand aside as thousands storm inside and grab whatever they can.

Third, reports of armed groups robbing people on their way back with food, particularly in the Gaza City area, have multiplied in recent days. The stolen food goes directly to Gazan markets, which are suddenly flush with Israeli products provided by GHF. A kilo (2.2 pounds) of flour sells for around 70 shekels ($20). Rice sells for about 50 shekels, and a container of cooking oil goes for 70.

The inescapable conclusion is that GHF and the army have failed in the two tasks they set for themselves. Armed individuals (who it's reasonable to assume include people from Hamas) steal the food and sell it, and Hamas may get tax revenue from it. But the residents, particularly the weak and the most needy, continue to suffer from extreme hunger.

The second distribution system permitted by the army since assistance resumed involves the UN. Every day, the army permits several dozen trucks to enter Gaza. Nearly all of the food on the trucks is stolen on the way to its intended recipients. UN staffers surmise that rather than being carried out by armed individuals, most of the food is stolen by crowds that stop the trucks and loot them. UN officials have decided not to try to stop that or to evade the looters. Their reasoning is that providing food in such a disorganized fashion is better than halting the distribution entirely.

At first, the UN tried to provide flour to bakeries so they could resume operating. However, the crush of thousands of famished Gazans descending on the bakeries endangered the residents. So, officials decided to halt the plan and to let people take sacks of flour directly from the trucks. Even under those circumstances, only those brave enough to travel in an area the army has declared dangerous (currently 82 percent of the Gaza Strip) and those capable of climbing onto a truck and unloading sacks of flour will get the food. And the weak are left behind.

Another problem is that, due to concern over looting, the UN hasn't managed to release other basic and highly critical necessities stuck at the Kerem Shalom crossing. These necessities include baby formula and food supplements, for example. Thus, most of the trucks entering Gaza are carrying only flour and basic foodstuffs. And again the weakest and most needy are left behind.

Le valutazioni delle nostre agenzie di intelligence e degli organismi internazionali vengono, come già accaduto durante le richieste di invadere l'Iraq, liquidate con disinvoltura come allucinazioni.

Dimenticate che Benjamin Netanyahu, per quasi tre decenni, ha avvertito senza sosta che l'Iran è sul punto di produrre un'arma nucleare. Dimenticate che l'attacco preventivo di Israele all'Iran è un crimine di guerra, per non parlare dei bombardamenti di un ospedale, di un'ambulanza e di giornalisti.

Dimenticate le centinaia di civili iraniani che Israele ha massacrato nelle sue ondate di attacchi aerei.

Dimenticate che Israele ha lanciato il suo attacco contro l'Iran proprio mentre era in programma il sesto round di negoziati sull'arricchimento nucleare tra Stati Uniti e Iran in Oman.

Dimenticate che è il primo ministro israeliano, e non il leader iraniano, ad essere oggetto di un mandato d'arresto, accusato di crimini di guerra e crimini contro l'umanità.

Bombardate! Bombardate! Bombardate!


Il presunto programma nucleare iraniano è l'equivalente privo di prove delle mitiche armi di distruzione di massa di Saddam Hussein e della sua alleanza con Al-Qaeda.

L'invasione e l'occupazione dell'Iraq, che hanno causato la morte di oltre 4.000 soldati e marines statunitensi e di centinaia di migliaia di civili iracheni, hanno provocato distruzione su vasta scala, instabilità regionale e dato vita a una serie di gruppi estremisti fanatici, tra cui lo Stato Islamico dell'Iraq e della Siria (ISIS).

A deadly race for food: Palestinians in Gaza risk harrowing journey day after day

KHAN YOUNIS, Gaza Strip (AP) — Each day, Palestinians in Gaza run a deadly gantlet in hopes of getting food. Israeli troops open barrages of gunfire toward crowds crossing military zones to get to the aid, they say, and knife-wielding thieves wait to ambush those who succeed. Palestinians say lawlessness is growing as they are forced into a competition to feed their families.

A lucky few manage to secure some packets of lentils, a jar of Nutella or a bag of flour. Many return empty-handed and must attempt the ordeal again the next day.

"This isn't aid. It's humiliation. It's death," said Jamil Atili, his face shining with sweat as he made his way back last week from a food center run by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, an Israeli-backed private contractor. He had suffered a knife cut across his cheek amid the scramble for food and said a contractor guard pepper-sprayed him in the face. Still, he emerged with nothing for his 13 family members.

"I have nothing to feed my children," he said, nearly crying. "My heart is broken."

Israel began allowing food into Gaza this past month after cutting it off completely for 10 weeks, though United Nations officials say it is not enough to stave off starvation. Most of the supplies go to GHF, which operates four food distribution points inside Israeli military zones. A trickle of aid goes to the U.N. and humanitarian groups.
Both systems are mired in chaos. Daily gunfire by Israeli troops toward crowds on the roads heading to the GHF centers has killed several hundred people and wounded hundreds more in past weeks, according to Gaza's Health Ministry.

At the same time, in past weeks, hungry crowds overwhelm most of the U.N.'s truck convoys and strip away the supplies. Israeli troops have opened fire to disperse crowds waiting for trucks near military zones, witnesses say — and on Tuesday, more than 50 people were killed, according to the ministry. The Israeli military says it is investigating.

"I don't see how it can get any worse, because it is already apocalyptic. But somehow it does get worse," said Olga Cherevko, spokesperson for the U.N. humanitarian affairs office.
Israel and GHF downplay the violence

Israel says it has only fired warning shots at suspects who approached its forces along the roads to the GHF food centers.

Palestinian witnesses say the troops fire to prevent crowds from moving past a certain point before the centers open or because people leave the road designated by the military. They describe heavy barrages from tanks, snipers, drones and even guns mounted on cranes.

Asked how its soldiers control movement, the military told The Associated Press its "operational conduct ... is accompanied by systematic learning processes." It said it was looking into safety measures like fences and road signs.

GHF says no shootings have taken place in or near its hubs. A spokesperson, speaking on condition of anonymity under GHF rules, said incidents take place before sites open involving aid-seekers who move "during prohibited times ... or trying to take a short cut." They said GHF is trying to improve safety, in part by changing opening times to daylight hours.

Israel intends for GHF to replace the U.N.-led aid network in Gaza, contending that Hamas diverts large amounts of aid from it. The U.N. denies the claim.
Ducking under fire

Thousands of people must walk miles to reach the GHF centers, three of which are in the far south outside the city of Rafah. Palestinians said the danger begins when the crowds enter the Israeli military zone encompassing Rafah.

Mohammed Saqer, a father of three who risked the trip multiple times, said that when he went last week, tanks were firing over the heads of the crowds as drone announcements told everyone to move back.

It's "like it was 'Squid Game,'" Saqer said, referring to the dystopian thriller TV series in which contestants risk their lives to win a prize. Just raising your head might mean death, he said.

He and others crawled forward, then left the main road. A shot rang out nearby and they ducked, he said. They found a young man on the ground, shot in the back. The others assumed he was dead, but Saqer felt his chest — it was still warm, and he found a pulse. They carried him to a point where a car could pick him up.

Saqer said he stood for a moment, traumatized by the scene. Then people shouted that the site had opened.
The mad dash

Everyone broke into a crazed run, he said. He saw several people wounded on the ground. One man, bleeding from his abdomen, reached out his hand, pleading for help. No one stopped.

"Everyone is just running to get to the aid, to get there first," Saqer said.

Omar al-Hobi described the same scene the four times he went last week. Twice, he returned empty-handed; once, he managed to grab a pack of lentils. On the fourth day, he was determined to secure flour for his three children and pregnant wife.

He said he and others inched their way forward under tank fire. He saw several people shot in the legs. One man fell bleeding to the ground, apparently dead, he said.

Horrified, al-Hobi froze, unable to move, "but I remembered I have to feed my children."

He took cover in a greenhouse, then heard the announcement that the center was open and began to run.
Avoiding thieves

At the center, food boxes are stacked on the ground in an area surrounded by fences and earthen berms. Thousands rush in to grab what they can in a frantic melee.

You have to move fast, Saqer said. Once supplies run out, some of those who came too late rob those leaving. He swiftly tore open a box and loaded the contents into a sack — juice, chickpeas, lentils, cheese, beans, flour and cooking oil.

Then he took off running. There's only one route in and out of the center. But, knowing thieves waited outside, Saqer clambered over a berm, running the risk of being fired on by Israeli troops.

"It all depends on the soldiers' mood. If they are in a bad mood ... they will shoot at me. If not, they will let me be," he said.

Heba Jouda said she saw a group of men beat up a boy of 12 or 13 years old and take his food as she left one of the Rafah centers. Another time, she said, thieves attacked an older man, who hugged his sack, weeping that his children had no food. They sliced his arm with a knife and ran off with the sack.
The finish line

Al-Hobi said he was trampled in the scramble for boxes. He managed to grab a bag of rice, a packet of macaroni. He snagged flour — but much of it was ruined in the chaos.

LONDRA - Il Labour di Jeremy Corbyn è stato responsabile "di discriminazione e vessazione" nei confronti di membri ed iscritti al partito ebrei. "C'era una cultura nel partito laburista che, nel migliore dei casi, non ha fatto abbastanza per prevenire l'antisemitismo e, nel peggiore, sembrava accettarlo".

È il verdetto, pesante come un macigno, della Commissione dei Diritti Umani britannica sul Labour governato dall'anziano leader socialista, dimessosi sei mesi fa, che getta nuove profonde ombre dopo le tante accuse negli anni scorsi e che stamattina ha già provocato un terremoto: il nuovo capo del Labour Sir Keir Starmer ha infatti deciso di silurare il suo predecessore, sospendendo così il 71enne Corbyn dal partito, umiliandolo pubblicamente e praticamente addossandogli tutte le responsabilità.

Una vicenda esplosiva. Dopo molti mesi di lavoro, le denunce per "antisemitismo" di decine di attivisti laburisti ebrei e l'abbandono di diversi deputati di religione ebraica "disgustati da ciò che avveniva nel partito" come Luciana Berger, la Commissione stamani ha stabilito che il Labour ha infranto tre punti della legge "Equality Act", che difende i diritti umani.

Il primo: "harassment", ossia vessazione e creazione di un ambiente ostile, in questo caso per diversi membri del partito di religione ebraica. Secondo: interferenze politiche nelle denunce interne per antisemitismo, ossia, per la Commissione, l'ufficio dello stesso leader Corbyn e altre massime autorità del partito avrebbero cercato di insabbiare i casi sospetti o comunque prendere decisioni prima di un'inchiesta interna. Terzo: coloro che si sono occupati delle inchieste interne per antisemitismo non erano stati sufficientemente istruiti dal partito per poter gestire casi simili.

Ne viene fuori un ritratto disarmante. Secondo la Commissione, il partito, nella migliore delle ipotesi, ha commesso perlomeno "numerosi errori" nella gestione interna delle accuse di antisemitismo. Ora il Labour, dopo la "condotta illegale" delineata dall'organismo anti-discriminazioni, ha sei settimane di tempo per presentare pubblicamente un piano per rimediare.

"È il nostro giorno della vergogna. Chiedo vivamente scusa per il dolore che il mio partito ha causato", è stato il commento a caldo dell'attuale leader laburista Sir Keir Starmer, ex ministro ombra della Brexit con Corbyn ma che sin dall'inizio della sua "reggenza" ha cercato di ricucire i rapporti con la comunità ebraica, andandola a visitare poche ore dopo la sua elezione. "Le conclusioni del rapporto sono chiare e nette", ha aggiunto Starmer, "ci sono stati errori da parte della leadership", riferendosi a Corbyn, "che hanno provocato una cesura tra il partito e la comunità ebraica. Sono costernato per tutto ciò che questo ha provocato. Abbiamo profondamente deluso la comunità ebraica".

"Mi riterrò soddisfatto solo il giorno in cui il Labour non sarà più associato alla parola antisemitismo: ma la strada è lunga. Chi ha negato questo problema, è parte del problema" ha poi dichiarato Starmer, riferendosi ancora evidentemente al suo predecessore Jeremy Corbyn, il quale subito dopo la sentenza aveva pubblicato nel frattempo un post su Facebook che stava già facendo discutere: "L'antisemitismo è una cosa orrenda e responsabile dei peggiori crimini dell'umanità. Certo che l'antisemitismo c'è stato nel partito come in ogni fetta della società, ma come leader del partito laburista ho sempre lottato contro ogni forma di razzismo e per estirpare il cancro antisemita. Le "interferenze" di cui parla il rapporto erano per accelerare le inchieste interne sui presunti casi di discriminazione, non per insabbiarle".

Corbyn ha poi affondato il colpo: "La misura del problema è stata fortemente esagerata da oppositori all'interno e all'esterno del partito, nonché dai media, per ragioni politiche".

Poco dopo, Starmer ha sospeso Corbyn. Inizialmente, durante una breve conferenza stampa, l'attuale leader aveva sviato tutte le domande a tema: "La Commissione si concentra su comportamenti collettivi nel partito, non individuali". In realtà non è affatto così, perché per prassi l'organismo non si occupa delle singole persone all'interno di un'organizzazione politica, ed è quest'ultima che deve decidere i provvedimenti personali nei confronti dei suoi membri. Anche per questo, poi Starmer ha fatto dietrofront e ha deciso di defenestrare, fino a una nuova inchiesta interna, il suo ex leader.

Apprezziamo gli sforzi del nuovo leader Starmer, ma la sfida che ha di fronte è notevole". Mentre il Jewish Labour Movement parla di "un capitolo sordido, vergognoso nella storia del nostro partito, di cui è pienamente responsabile la leadership" di Corbyn.

Le accuse di antisemitismo nel partito laburista sono esplose nel 2016, quando l'ex sindaco di Londra Ken Livingstone "il rosso" (dell'ala socialista radicale) in un'intervista citò il post su Facebook di un'altra collega del Labour, la deputata Naz Shah, che auspicava la "ricollocazione di Israele negli Stati Uniti d'America" per "risolvere il problema in Medio Oriente".

Da allora, sono emersi sempre più casi di sospetto o palese antisemitismo che hanno travolto il partito allora guidato da Corbyn, spesso accusato di negligenza se non complicità, fino a un documentario della Bbc nel luglio 2019 in cui otto ex impiegati del partito parlarono di sistematici insabbiamenti di casi sospetti antisemiti e di "un clima irrespirabile per gli ebrei". Macchie sul Labour che, in ogni caso, rimarranno visibili per ancora molto tempo.

Molte voci si sono levate in sua difesa. Da quel che ho letto, non credo proprio che Corbyn sia antisemita.
Ma il suo essere sbilanciato completamente a favore della causa palestinese probabilmente ha fatto sì che nel partito alcuni si sentissero autorizzati a varcare certi limiti, non so se mi spiego.
Rifugiandosi nel generico siamo contro tutti i razzismi senza entrare nello specifico e evitando di prendere provvedimenti.
Un cinico userebbe la citazione: peggio di un delitto, un errore politico.
La sinistra non ha bisogno di gente come lui, così come di Tony Blair (bisogna specificarlo per FD  ).
Perché puoi avere il miglior programma possibile ma se nel tuo partito succede quello che è stato documentato non vai da nessuna parte.

Oppure è tutto un complotto dei poteri forti, che vi devo dire.

Quelli del 1979 si avrebbero impiccato Mossadeq, ma per arrivare al potere avrebbero dovuto scavalcare la maggioranza "alla occidentale" che lo aveva votato, era per la separazione stato e chiesa e che sarebbe stata contenta di lasciarlo lì, se "qualcuno" non l'avesse sostituito con un tiranno sanguinario.

Come avviene in tutte le rivoluzioni l'inizio è molteplice. Proprio come in Russia la rivoluzione la fecero pure i cadetti borghesi.
Poi in iran alla fine del processo ebbero la meglio gli ayatollah e ci fu una torsione monocolore.

Three Palestinians were killed by Israeli army gunfire and seven were wounded next to Ramallah in the West Bank on Wednesday evening.

According to the IDF, dozens of Israeli settlers set fire to property in the village and threw stones at residents. IDF forces who arrived at the scene claimed that several people from the village fired at them and threw stones, prompting the soldiers to return fire, which killed three and wounded several others.

The IDF said five settlers were arrested and handed over to the police. All five were released the following morning after being cleared of any suspicion, according to the Israel Police.

According to the Palestinian Health Ministry, seven people were wounded in the incident, one of them seriously.

Local residents told Haaretz that dozens of settlers raided the Palestinian village, set cars and homes on fire, while village residents, along with Palestinians from the area, tried to fend them off.

Local resident Jaafer Hamayel said that it was the Israeli army that killed the three Palestinians: "The settlers attacked and set on fire a house in the village, and the youth came outside to protect it. They set cars and houses on fire, and the army shot at us. "

"The settlers also fired handguns," he added, "but those who fired assault rifles with laser designators straight at the youth were the army."

Hamayel said that the settlers arrived at the village as it was grieving the death of 13-year-old Moataz Aamar Hamayel, who was killed by IDF fire on Monday.

Hussein al-Sheikh, the deputy to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, posted on X: "The government of Israel, with its behaviour and decisions, is pushing the region to explode."

"We call on the international community to intervene urgently to protect our Palestinian people," he said.
